The Letter – chapter I

Italian Front, Winter 1917

Alberto Simonelli wears a WWI Italian gunner uniform equipped with the Saint-Étienne M1907 machine gun, used by specialized gunner units within the Parma Brigade, identifiable by the distinctive vertical blue military insignia.

The corporal uniform is worn in memory of Primo Simonelli, Alberto’s grandfather, born in 1896 and wounded in battle on December 2nd, 1916 near Lake Doberdò while serving on the Italian Front.
